How to satisfy your bread craving when you have food allergies...
There is something so comforting about bread. Food can be so nostalgic and when you find yourself no longer being able to eat foods that you have enjoyed for so long it can be painful! These are the moments where I get creative, do research, figure out how to make them myself, because buying the foods pre-made can be difficult and sometimes don’t exist. In the beginning I remember getting so frustrated reading labels. It helps a lot to know a few brands off the top of my head that are free of the top 8 common allergens….
- Tree nuts
Then no label reading is needed! Namaste creates all their products in a dedicated allergen free facility too, so no chance of cross contamination. It is so nice to be able to tell family and friends who aren’t as good at navigating food allergies to just look for Namaste brand and it’ll be “Kim-Friendly,” as we call it around here.
Being able to make bread for our family of allergies is a God-send and much cheaper than buying a loaf already made at the store, not to mention it makes our house smell amazing.
With the Namaste Quick Bread & Muffin mix here are the substitutions I made to make it “Kim-Friendly”…
- Eggs - Namaste raw goods egg replacer (2 tsp egg replacer + 2 tbsp warm water = 1 egg)
- Milk- Almond Milk
- Butter or Oil - Extra Virgin Olive Oil
This bread had a sweeter flavor, as quick breads do. It reminded me of cornbread, and it was delicious. It paired perfectly with the vegan chili I whipped up for dinner that evening.
